The Great Debate 2024: Social Media buzz trumps traditional media

It was an honour to be asked to take part in the annual IABC Great Debate in March.

Representing traditional media, I was so impressed by each speaker’s points. In particular, Dr Catherine Archer who has an inspirational mind and is such an engaging public speaker. The audience was also a hoot, with a lot of heckling and laughs.

The debate was spirited, witty and I had the pleasure of delivering the final rebuttal for our team.

Team Traditional lost by five points, however I thoroughly enjoyed working with the legendary Mark Readings and James McHale on our team. We received some incredible feedback at and following the event from both participants and the audience. A joyful experience! Also a hark back the days of competing in debating at Countryweek for Mandurah Senior High School before Facebook and TikTok were a thought bubble. Haha!

Thank you IABC WA for such an engaging and fun experience! I’ll be sure to attend next year’s event.
